  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to medical assistance; establishing a 
  1.3             technical assistance program to increase Medicare 
  1.4             payments for covered services; appropriating money; 
  1.5             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 256B.0627, 
  1.6             by adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 256B.0627, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 7.  [TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO PROVIDERS.] (a) The 
  1.11  commissioner shall establish a technical assistance program to 
  1.12  enable providers of services and equipment under this section to 
  1.13  maximize collections from the federal Medicare program.  The 
  1.14  technical assistance may include the provision of materials to 
  1.15  help providers determine those services and equipment likely to 
  1.16  be reimbursed by Medicare.  The technical assistance may also 
  1.17  include the provision of computer software to providers to 
  1.18  assist in this process. 
  1.19     (b) The commissioner may expand the technical assistance 
  1.20  program to include providers of other services under this 
  1.21  chapter. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.23     $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.24  commissioner of human services for the purposes of section 1 to 
  1.25  be available until June 30, 1997.
