  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to taxation; deed tax; exempting marriage 
  1.3             dissolution decrees or instruments made pursuant to 
  1.4             these decrees from imposition of the tax; amending 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 287.22. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 287.22, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      287.22 [EXCEPTIONS.] 
  1.10     The tax imposed by section 287.21 shall not apply to: 
  1.11     A.  Any executory contract for the sale of land under which 
  1.12  the vendee is entitled to or does take possession thereof, or 
  1.13  any assignment or cancellation thereof.  
  1.14     B.  Any mortgage or any assignment, extension, partial 
  1.15  release, or satisfaction thereof.  
  1.16     C.  Any will.  
  1.17     D.  Any plat.  
  1.18     E.  Any lease.  
  1.19     F.  Any deed, instrument, or writing in which the United 
  1.20  States or any agency or instrumentality thereof is the grantor, 
  1.21  assignor, transferor, conveyor, grantee or assignee. 
  1.22     G.  Deeds for cemetery lots.  
  1.23     H.  Deeds of distribution by personal representatives.  
  1.24     I.  Deeds to or from coowners partitioning undivided 
  1.25  interests in the same piece of property. 
  2.1      J.  Any deed or other instrument of conveyance issued 
  2.2   pursuant to a land exchange under section 92.121 and related 
  2.3   laws.  
  2.4      K.  A referee's or sheriff's certificate of sale in a 
  2.5   mortgage or lien foreclosure sale. 
  2.6      L.  A referee's or sheriff's certificate of redemption from 
  2.7   a mortgage or lien foreclosure sale issued to the redeeming 
  2.8   mortgagor or lienee. 
  2.9      M.  A decree of marriage dissolution, as defined in section 
  2.10  287.01, subdivision 4, or any deed or other instrument between 
  2.11  the parties to the dissolution made pursuant to the terms of the 
  2.12  decree. 
  2.13     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.14     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
