  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to family services; appropriating money for a 
  1.3             grant program to provide services to families with 
  1.4             deaf or hard-of-hearing children. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $500,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.8   commissioner of children, families, and learning for the fiscal 
  1.9   biennium ending June 30, 2001, for a grant to a statewide agency 
  1.10  providing a family communication initiative program for families 
  1.11  with deaf or hard-of-hearing children who are up to eight years 
  1.12  old.  In the grant selection process, the commissioner shall 
  1.13  consult with the Minnesota commission serving deaf and 
  1.14  hard-of-hearing people and the deaf and hard-of-hearing services 
  1.15  division of the department of human services.
