  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to crime victim services; appropriating money 
  1.3             to provide programs for crime victims in unserved 
  1.4             counties and to provide assistance to underserved 
  1.5             communities. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS.] 
  1.8      $2,642,080 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.9   commissioner of corrections for the following: 
  1.10     (1) to provide programs to serve general crime victims, as 
  1.11  described in Minnesota Statutes, section 611A.361, subdivision 
  1.12  1, in the counties that do not have crime victim service 
  1.13  programs; and 
  1.14     (2) to provide programs to underserved communities that 
  1.15  need additional assistance. 
  1.16     Of this appropriation, $53,920 is to be used for grants 
  1.17  administration to ensure that grants are processed on a timely 
  1.18  basis. 
  1.19     This appropriation is available for the fiscal biennium 
  1.20  ending June 30, 1999. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION; DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY.] 
  1.22     $53,290 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.23  commissioner of public safety to provide introductory training 
  1.24  and program development assistance to the new crime victim 
  1.25  services programs designated by the commissioner of corrections 
  2.1   under section 1.  This appropriation is available for the fiscal 
  2.2   biennium ending June 30, 1999.
