  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to professions; authorizing the board of 
  1.3             accountancy to issue inactive licenses; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 326.20, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 326.20, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 1a.  [INACTIVE LICENSES.] The board may issue 
  1.10  inactive licenses that permit previously licensed individuals to 
  1.11  hold out as CPAs or LPAs but not to practice public accounting 
  1.12  in any other manner.  The board may not require individuals who 
  1.13  do not hold out as CPAs or LPAs or practice public accounting in 
  1.14  any other manner to obtain inactive licenses, nor may the board 
  1.15  require those individuals to surrender their certificates.  The 
  1.16  board must provide for the relicensing of those individuals if 
  1.17  they wish to return to the practice of public accounting. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
