A bill for an act
relating to counties; creating two new counties; providing for their representation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Lake Wobegon County is established. The
county is comprised of the former counties of Benton and Stearns, the part of the city of
St. Cloud formerly in Sherburne County, and the township of Haven.

Until the 2012
general election, Lake Wobegon County must be served by nine county commissioners
elected at large in the 2010 general election. The county must be reapportioned into
seven commissioner districts for the 2012 general election and thereafter, until the next
statewide reapportionment.

Except as otherwise
provided in this act, the provisions of Minnesota Statutes, sections 370.09 to 370.24, apply
to the establishment of Lake Wobegon County.

Sherburne County is established. The county is
comprised of the territory contained in the cities of Becker, Big Lake, Clear Lake, Elk
River, Princeton, and Zimmerman, and the townships of Baldwin, Becker, Big Lake, Blue
Hill, Clear Lake, Livonia, Orrock, Palmer, and Santiago.

The county commissioners
representing the districts established on the date of final enactment of this act must serve
as commissioners until their terms expire or the 2012 general election, whichever occurs
first, except that the districts do not include territory that is made part of Lake Wobegon
County under section 1.

to the establishment of Sherburne County.

This act is effective August 1, 2009, for operation of new counties after the 2010
general election.
