A bill for an act
 relating to libraries; modifying the maintenance of effort requirement for the
Hennepin County library system; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section
383B.247.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 383B.247, is amended to read:


383B.247 MERGER.

The county and the library board of the city of Minneapolis may agree to merge their
public library systems at a time and in a manner as they may agree as enabled pursuant to
Laws 2007, chapter 121. new text begin Notwithstanding section 134.34, subdivision 4, the maintenance
of effort requirement for the merged library system for 2009 to 2012 must be based on 85
percent of the combined Hennepin County and city of Minneapolis library spending for
operating purposes in calendar year 2007.
