  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; volunteer firefighter relief 
  1.3             associations; clarifying the application of the open 
  1.4             meeting law; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 
  1.5             13D.01, subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 13D.01, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [IN EXECUTIVE BRANCH, LOCAL GOVERNMENT.] 
  1.10  All meetings, including executive sessions, must be open to the 
  1.11  public 
  1.12     (a) of a state 
  1.13     (1) agency, 
  1.14     (2) board, 
  1.15     (3) commission, or 
  1.16     (4) department, 
  1.17  when required or permitted by law to transact public business in 
  1.18  a meeting; and 
  1.19     (b) of the governing body of a 
  1.20     (1) school district however organized, 
  1.21     (2) unorganized territory, 
  1.22     (3) county, 
  1.23     (4) statutory or home rule charter city, 
  1.24     (5) town, or 
  1.25     (6) other public body; and 
  2.1      (c) of any 
  2.2      (1) committee, 
  2.3      (2) subcommittee, 
  2.4      (3) board, 
  2.5      (4) department, or 
  2.6      (5) commission, 
  2.7   of a public body; and 
  2.8      (d) of the governing body or a committee of a volunteer 
  2.9   firefighter relief association governed by sections 69.771 to 
  2.10  69.775. 
  2.11     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.12     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
