A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; appropriating money for forestry management.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; FORESTRY MANAGEMENT.

new text begin (a) $2,500,000 in fiscal year 2018 and $2,500,000 in fiscal year 2019 are appropriated
from the general fund to the commissioner of natural resources. Of this amount, $1,000,000
each year is to maintain forest roads administered by the Department of Natural Resources
and $1,500,000 each year is for grants to counties to maintain county-administered forest
roads. Grants under this paragraph are available only to counties that have appointed land
commissioners.

new text begin (b) $750,000 in fiscal year 2018 and $750,000 in fiscal year 2019 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of natural resources to accelerate the Forestry Division's
inventory of forest stands to achieve a 15-year inventory cycle.

new text begin (c) $500,000 in fiscal year 2018 and $500,000 in fiscal year 2019 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of natural resources for cost-share programs for forestry
management with owners of private forest land.
