  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; appropriating money for a model 
  1.3             school to address chronic truancy and other behavior 
  1.4             problems. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; MODEL SCHOOL FOR CHRONIC 
  1.7   TRUANCY AND OTHER BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS.] 
  1.8      $50,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.9   commissioner of children, families, and learning in fiscal year 
  1.10  1998 for the purpose of funding the efforts of independent 
  1.11  school district No. 77, Mankato, to participate in an 
  1.12  interagency cooperative program for at-risk middle and junior 
  1.13  high school students in adjudication for chronic truancy and 
  1.14  other behavior problems.  The program, which involves a maximum 
  1.15  of 12 youth, encourages individualized teaching plans, regular 
  1.16  parent meetings, and collaboration between the student's 
  1.17  probation officer, social worker, teachers, administrators, and 
  1.18  any law enforcement officials working with the youth.
