  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; providing a grant for a 
  1.3             feasibility study on the use of agricultural straw and 
  1.4             native prairie grasses in the production of wood pulp; 
  1.5             appropriating money. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.8      $250,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.9   commissioner of agriculture for a grant to the University of 
  1.10  Minnesota, department of wood and paper science, to investigate 
  1.11  the economic, environmental, and technical feasibility of using 
  1.12  agricultural straw, native prairie grasses, industrial hemp, or 
  1.13  other crop residues in the production of wood pulp substitutes 
  1.14  for commercial pulp and paper production.  The faculty from the 
  1.15  department of wood and paper science shall create an advisory 
  1.16  committee comprised of representatives from agricultural 
  1.17  organizations, pulp and paper manufacturers, the agricultural 
  1.18  utilization research institute, and environmental groups.  This 
  1.19  appropriation is available until June 30, 1999.
