  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; appropriating money for 
  1.3             agriculture in the classroom. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [MINNESOTA AGRICULTURE IN THE CLASSROOM.] 
  1.6      $275,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal 
  1.7   year 1998 and $75,000 in fiscal year 1999 to the commissioner of 
  1.8   children, families, and learning.  The commissioner must use 
  1.9   this funding to integrate knowledge of the food and fiber system 
  1.10  in the graduation rule.  $75,000 in each fiscal year is for a 
  1.11  staff person to assist in preparing food and fiber performance 
  1.12  packages.  The person shall work with the department of 
  1.13  agriculture and the University of Minnesota in this effort.  
  1.14  $200,000 is to be used for food and fiber curriculum and other 
  1.15  instructional materials.  These appropriations do not cancel and 
  1.16  are available until expended.
