1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to traffic regulations; regulating display of 1.3 vehicle lights; making technical, conforming, and 1.4 clarifying revisions; amending Minnesota Statutes 1.5 2002, section 169.48, subdivision 1. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 169.48, 1.8 subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.9 Subdivision 1. [LIGHTS TO BE DISPLAYED.] (a) Every vehicle 1.10 upon a highway at any time within this state:1.11(1) at any time from sunset to sunrise;1.12(2) at any time when it is raining, snowing, sleeting, or1.13hailing; and1.14(3) at any other time when visibility is impaired by1.15weather, smoke, fog or other conditions or there is not1.16sufficient light to render clearly discernible persons and1.17vehicles on the highway at a distance of 500 feet ahead;1.18shallmust display lighted lamps and illuminating devices, 1.19 ashereinafter, respectively,required for different classes of 1.20 vehicles, subject to exceptions with respect to parked vehicles1.21and law enforcement vehicles, as hereinafter statedunder 1.22 sections 169.48 to 169.66.In addition to the other1.23requirements of this paragraph, every school bus transporting1.24children upon a highway within this state, at any time from a1.25half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset, shall2.1display lighted lamps and illuminating devices as required by2.2this paragraph, except that2.3 (b) From sunrise to sunset, the operator shall use the 2.4 lowermost distribution of light specified in section 169.60 2.5 unless conditions warrant otherwise. 2.6(b) When requirement is hereinafter declared as to(c) 2.7 Those provisions of sections 169.48 to 169.66 governing the 2.8 distance from which certain lamps and devicesshallmust render 2.9 objects visible or within whichsuchthe lamps or devicesshall2.10 must be visible,these provisions shallapply during the time 2.11 stated inthis sectionthat provision, if any, upon a straight, 2.12 level, unlighted highway under normal atmospheric conditions 2.13 unless a differenttime orcondition is expressly statedand. 2.14 In addition, unless otherwise specified, the location of lamps 2.15 and devicesshall referrefers to the center ofsuchthe lamps 2.16 or devices. 2.17 (d) Parking lampsshallmust not be used in lieu of head 2.18 lamps to satisfy the requirements of this section.
