  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; appropriating money for a grant to 
  1.3             the city of Minneapolis for a health education and 
  1.4             promotion program on food safety. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION AND PROMOTION 
  1.7   PROGRAM ON FOOD SAFETY.] 
  1.8      (a) The commissioner of health shall award a grant to the 
  1.9   city of Minneapolis to establish a community-based health 
  1.10  education and promotion program on food safety in the Latino, 
  1.11  Somali, and Southeast Asian communities. 
  1.12     (b) The program shall consist of direct training of food 
  1.13  industry operators and workers on safe handling of food and 
  1.14  proper operation of food establishments and a community consumer 
  1.15  awareness campaign to increase community awareness of food 
  1.16  safety and access to food regulatory services.  
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.18     $400,000 is appropriated for the biennium beginning July 1, 
  1.19  2001, from the general fund to the commissioner of health for 
  1.20  the grant described in section 1.
