  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to crimes; requiring modifications to the 
  1.3             sentencing guidelines to raise the severity level for 
  1.4             crimes involving the failure to stop and give 
  1.5             notification at the site of a traffic accident. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [SENTENCING GUIDELINES MODIFICATION.] 
  1.8      The sentencing guidelines commission shall modify the 
  1.9   sentencing guidelines by ranking: 
  1.10     (1) a violation of Minnesota Statutes, section 169.09, 
  1.11  subdivision 14, paragraph (a), clause (1), at severity level 
  1.12  VII; 
  1.13     (2) a violation of Minnesota Statutes, section 169.09, 
  1.14  subdivision 14, paragraph (a), clause (2), at severity level V; 
  1.15  and 
  1.16     (3) a violation of Minnesota Statutes, section 169.09, 
  1.17  subdivision 14, paragraph (a), clause (3), at severity level III.
  1.18     These modifications apply to offenders who commit crimes on 
  1.19  or after August 1, 1995. 
  1.20     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.21     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
