  1.2             relating to natural resources; expanding eligibility 
  1.3             for the Red river basin flood hazard mitigation 
  1.4             projects that may receive 75 percent state grants; 
  1.5             appropriating money for flood hazard mitigation grants 
  1.6             for the Red river basin; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.7             2000, section 103F.161, subdivision 3. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.10     $234,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.11  commissioner of natural resources for the flood hazard 
  1.12  mitigation grant program for the Red river basin for grants to 
  1.13  local government units for publicly owned capital improvements 
  1.14  to prevent or alleviate flood damages under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.15  section 103F.161. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 103F.161, 
  1.17  subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.18     Subd. 3.  [RED RIVER BASIN FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECTS.] 
  1.19  Notwithstanding subdivision 2, a grant for implementation of a 
  1.20  flood hazard mitigation project in the Red river basin that is 
  1.21  consistent with the 1998 mediation agreement and approved by the 
  1.22  Red river flood damage reduction work group may be for up to 75 
  1.23  percent of the cost of the proposed mitigation measures for the 
  1.24  Agassiz-Audubon, North Ottawa, Hay creek, and Thief river 
  1.25  subwatershed projects. 
  1.26     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.1      Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  2.2   enactment.
