  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state lands; authorizing a long-term lease 
  1.3             of school trust land for a public purpose. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [LONG-TERM LEASE OF SCHOOL TRUST LAND IN ST. 
  1.6   LOUIS COUNTY.] 
  1.7      (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 92.50, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, the commissioner of natural resources shall enter 
  1.9   into a 50-year lease with the St. Louis and Lake counties 
  1.10  regional railroad authority for the surface use of the land 
  1.11  described in paragraph (b).  The lease terms shall permit the 
  1.12  regional railroad authority to build a public visitor center for 
  1.13  the Mesabi trail on the land.  The lease shall be for the 
  1.14  nominal fee of $1 for each year of the lease. 
  1.15     (b) The land to be leased is school trust land in St. Louis 
  1.16  county, described as:  the Northwest Quarter of the Southwest 
  1.17  Quarter and the Southwest Quarter of the Southwest Quarter, 
  1.18  Section 16, Township 58 North, Range 17 West.
