  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to health and human services; providing for 
  1.3             consultation with representatives of urban Indian 
  1.4             organizations by the commissioner of health and the 
  1.5             commissioner of human services; amending Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes 2002, section 256.01, by adding a 
  1.7             subdivision; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.8             Statutes, chapter 144. 
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  [144.091] [ADVISORY CONSULTATION WITH URBAN 
  1.11  INDIANS.] 
  1.12     The commissioner shall consult with the metropolitan urban 
  1.13  Indian directors on at least a biannual basis with regard to the 
  1.14  impact of department plans, projects, programs, and activities 
  1.15  on urban Indians to insure that the rights and concerns of urban 
  1.16  Indians are considered in the development of such plans, 
  1.17  projects, programs, and activities.  Advisory consultations in 
  1.18  addition to regularly scheduled consultations shall be held when 
  1.19  requested by either the commissioner or the metropolitan urban 
  1.20  Indian directors.  Consultations required under this section may 
  1.21  be conducted jointly with the commissioner of human services. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 256.01, is 
  1.23  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.24     Subd. 6a.  [ADVISORY CONSULTATION WITH URBAN INDIANS.] The 
  1.25  commissioner shall consult with the metropolitan urban Indian 
  1.26  directors on at least a biannual basis with regard to the impact 
  1.27  of department plans, projects, programs, and activities on urban 
  2.1   Indians to insure that the rights and concerns of urban Indians 
  2.2   are considered in the development of such plans, projects, 
  2.3   programs, and activities.  Advisory consultations in addition to 
  2.4   regularly scheduled consultations shall be held when requested 
  2.5   by either the commissioner or the metropolitan urban Indian 
  2.6   directors.  Consultations required under this section may be 
  2.7   conducted jointly with the commissioner of health.
