  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; teachers retirement 
  1.3             association; authorizing a service credit purchase for 
  1.4             prior teaching service at the University of Minnesota. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [TEACHERS RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION; SERVICE 
  1.7   CREDIT PURCHASE.] 
  1.8      (a) Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, an 
  1.9   eligible person described in paragraph (b) is entitled to 
  1.10  purchase service credit from the teachers retirement association 
  1.11  for the period from 1967 to 1969, upon payment of the purchase 
  1.12  price specified in paragraph (c). 
  1.13     (b) An eligible person is a person who: 
  1.14     (1) was born on October 22, 1943; 
  1.15     (2) is a current member of the teachers retirement 
  1.16  association; 
  1.17     (3) is employed by independent school district No. 279, 
  1.18  Osseo, as a teacher; and 
  1.19     (4) was employed as a teacher at the University of 
  1.20  Minnesota from 1967 to 1969. 
  1.21     (c) The purchase payment amount must be determined as 
  1.22  provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 356.55 or 356.551, 
  1.23  whichever is applicable. 
  1.24     (d) Payment of the prior service credit purchase amount may 
  1.25  be made anytime before January 1, 2002. 
  2.1      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.2      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
