  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to higher education; providing a grant to 
  1.3             support post-secondary outreach by Alexandria 
  1.4             technical college; appropriating money.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $30,000 in fiscal year 2002 and $30,000 in fiscal year 2003 
  1.8   are appropriated from the general fund to the board of trustees 
  1.9   of the Minnesota state colleges and universities for a grant to 
  1.10  Alexandria technical college.  The grant must be used to help 
  1.11  support the science, technology, and engineering preview summer 
  1.12  camp for girls sponsored by the Alexandria technical college.  
  1.13  The camp experience exposes girls entering the seventh grade to 
  1.14  technical career possibilities, provides them with a 
  1.15  college-type experience, and encourages them to take the 
  1.16  necessary math and science courses to succeed in college level 
  1.17  engineering programs.  The goal of the camp is to encourage 
  1.18  girls to take appropriate course work in middle and high 
  1.19  schools, to encourage young women to enter technical fields in 
  1.20  college, and ultimately to increase the participation of women 
  1.21  in technical career fields.
