  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; appropriating money for 
  1.3             DARE programs and training; extending the expiration 
  1.4             date of the DARE advisory council. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [EXTENSION OF EXPIRATION DATE.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 15.059, the 
  1.8   advisory council on drug abuse resistance education expires on 
  1.9   June 30, 1999. 
  1.10     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.11     Subdivision 1.  [ATTORNEY GENERAL.] $1,139,000 is 
  1.12  appropriated to the attorney general from the general fund for 
  1.13  the fiscal biennium ending June 30, 1999, for a grant to the 
  1.14  advisory council on drug abuse resistance education for drug 
  1.15  abuse resistance education programs under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.16  section 299A.331, to be used to continue existing education 
  1.17  programs in elementary schools and to expand the program into 
  1.18  junior and senior high schools throughout the state.  Of this 
  1.19  amount, up to $25,000 may be used for a follow-up DARE 
  1.20  evaluation study.  The advisory council may also use an 
  1.21  appropriate portion of this appropriation for the administrative 
  1.22  expenses of the vendor selected to administer the grants. 
  1.23     Subd. 2.  [BOARD OF PEACE OFFICER STANDARDS AND 
  1.24  TRAINING.] $50,000 is appropriated for the fiscal year ending 
  1.25  June 30, 1998, and $50,000 is appropriated for the fiscal year 
  2.1   ending June 30, 1999, from the general fund to the board of 
  2.2   peace officer standards and training to be used for DARE officer 
  2.3   training.
