  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; authorizing a service credit 
  1.3             purchase in the teachers retirement association for 
  1.4             certain sabbatical leaves. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [TEACHERS RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION; SERVICE 
  1.7   CREDIT PURCHASE FOR SABBATICAL LEAVES.] 
  1.8      (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 354.092, or 
  1.9   any other law to the contrary, an eligible person described in 
  1.10  paragraph (b) is entitled to purchase not more than three years 
  1.11  of allowable service credit from the teachers retirement 
  1.12  association for sabbatical leave as defined in Minnesota 
  1.13  Statutes, section 122A.49.  A service credit purchase under this 
  1.14  section must be made in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.15  section 356.55 or 356.551, whichever is applicable. 
  1.16     (b) An eligible person is a person who: 
  1.17     (1) worked as a teacher for independent school district No. 
  1.18  191, Burnsville-Eagan-Savage; 
  1.19     (2) was on sabbatical leave at some time between January 1, 
  1.20  1982, and December 31, 1989; and 
  1.21     (3) did not receive service credit for time on sabbatical 
  1.22  leave because the leave was not properly reported to the 
  1.23  teachers retirement association. 
  1.24     (c) An eligible person described in paragraph (b) must 
  1.25  apply with the executive director of the teachers retirement 
  2.1   association to make a service credit purchase under this 
  2.2   section.  The application must be in writing and must include 
  2.3   all necessary documentation of the applicability of this section 
  2.4   and any other relevant information that the executive director 
  2.5   may require. 
  2.6      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.7      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
