  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to landlords and tenants; clarifying a 
  1.3             definition with respect to housing discrimination; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 363.01, 
  1.5             subdivision 42. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 363.01, 
  1.8   subdivision 42, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 42.  [STATUS WITH REGARD TO PUBLIC ASSISTANCE.] 
  1.10  "Status with regard to public assistance" means the condition of 
  1.11  being a recipient of federal, state or local assistance, 
  1.12  including medical assistance, or of being a tenant receiving 
  1.13  federal, state or local subsidies, including rental assistance 
  1.14  or rent supplements, but not including section 8 certificates or 
  1.15  vouchers held by a tenant under section 8 of the United States 
  1.16  Housing Act of 1937, United States Code, title 42, section 1437f.
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective retroactively to August 1, 1973.
