  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to natural resources; appropriating money for 
  1.3             community forest improvement grants. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.6      $250,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 1998 and $250,000 
  1.7   is appropriated in fiscal year 1999 from the general fund to the 
  1.8   commissioner of natural resources for grants to local community 
  1.9   forest ecosystem health programs.  The appropriations are 
  1.10  available until expended.  The commissioner of natural resources 
  1.11  shall allocate individual grants of up to $10,000 to local 
  1.12  communities that have matching nonstate money available to 
  1.13  undertake projects that improve the health of forest ecosystems, 
  1.14  including insect and disease suppression programs, 
  1.15  community-based forest health education programs, and other 
  1.16  arboricultural treatments.
