  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for residency 
  1.3             requirements for school board candidates; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 204B.06, subdivision 
  1.5             1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 204B.06, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [FORM OF AFFIDAVIT.] An affidavit of 
  1.10  candidacy shall state the name of the office sought and shall 
  1.11  state that the candidate:  
  1.12     (a) Is an eligible voter; 
  1.13     (b) Has no other affidavit on file as a candidate for any 
  1.14  office at the same primary or next ensuing general election; and 
  1.15     (c) Is, or will be on assuming the office, 21 years of age 
  1.16  or more, and will have maintained residence in the district from 
  1.17  which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the 
  1.18  general election, except in the case of a school district office 
  1.19  the affidavit shall state that the candidate is a current 
  1.20  resident of the district and will maintain residence in the 
  1.21  district until the time of the election. 
  1.22     An affidavit of candidacy must include a statement that the 
  1.23  candidate's name as written on the affidavit for ballot 
  1.24  designation is the candidate's true name or the name by which 
  1.25  the candidate is commonly and generally known in the community. 
  2.1      An affidavit of candidacy for partisan office shall also 
  2.2   state the name of the candidate's political party or political 
  2.3   principle, stated in three words or less.
