  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to utilities; allowing city to purchase all 
  1.3             electricity needed for its operations from any 
  1.4             electric utility providing service within the city; 
  1.5             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.6             chapter 216B. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [216B.425] [MUNICIPALITY; OPTION OF ELECTRIC 
  1.9   SERVICE.] 
  1.10     Notwithstanding sections 216B.39 and 216B.40, a statutory 
  1.11  or home rule charter city may purchase electricity from any 
  1.12  electric utility providing service for an assigned service area 
  1.13  located wholly or partially within the city.  The city may 
  1.14  contract with an electric utility to provide electric service 
  1.15  for the city's facilities and operations throughout the city, 
  1.16  within or without the utility's assigned service area.  A city 
  1.17  may not resell electricity purchased under this section.
