  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; requiring cellular 911 
  1.3             calls be connected to and answered by local public 
  1.4             safety answering points; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.5             1996, section 403.13. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 403.13, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      403.13 [CELLULAR TELEPHONE USE.] 
  1.10     A provider of cellular telephone services in Minnesota 
  1.11  shall notify its subscribers at the time of initial subscription 
  1.12  and four times per year thereafter that a 911 emergency call 
  1.13  made with a cellular telephone is not answered by a local public 
  1.14  safety answering point but rather is routed to a state patrol 
  1.15  dispatcher and that, accordingly, the caller must provide 
  1.16  specific information regarding the caller's location. Those 
  1.17  entities that are responsible for the design, planning, and 
  1.18  coordination of the 911 emergency telephone system under the 
  1.19  requirements of this chapter shall ensure that a 911 emergency 
  1.20  call made with a cellular phone is automatically connected to 
  1.21  and answered by a local public safety answering point.
