  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; unclassified employees 
  1.3             retirement plan of the Minnesota state retirement 
  1.4             system; authorizing a purchase of prior service credit 
  1.5             for temporary full-time employment. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [UNCLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT PLAN SERVICE 
  1.8   CREDIT PURCHASE AUTHORIZED.] 
  1.9      (a) Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, 
  1.10  an eligible person described in paragraph (b) is authorized to 
  1.11  purchase allowable service credit from the unclassified 
  1.12  employees retirement plan of the Minnesota state retirement 
  1.13  system for the period described in paragraph (c) by making a 
  1.14  prior service credit purchase payment required under Minnesota 
  1.15  Statutes, section 356.55. 
  1.16     (b) An eligible person is a person who: 
  1.17     (1) is a current employee of the Minneapolis employees 
  1.18  retirement fund and is a current member of the coordinated plan 
  1.19  of the public employees retirement association and an inactive 
  1.20  member of the unclassified retirement plan of the Minnesota 
  1.21  state retirement system; 
  1.22     (2) was born on April 26, 1949; 
  1.23     (3) was employed as a full-time instructor temporary 
  1.24  classification on August 15, 1981, by the accounting department, 
  1.25  Carlson school of management, University of Minnesota; and 
  2.1      (4) was subsequently reappointed annually as a full-time 
  2.2   instructor temporary classification for an additional three 
  2.3   years and terminated employment on August 14, 1985. 
  2.4      (c) The allowable service credit purchase is four years. 
  2.5      (d) The eligible person must provide all relevant 
  2.6   documentation of the applicability of the requirements set forth 
  2.7   in paragraph (b) and any other applicable information that the 
  2.8   executive director of the Minnesota state retirement system may 
  2.9   request. 
  2.10     (e) Allowable service credit for the purchase period must 
  2.11  be granted by the unclassified retirement plan to the eligible 
  2.12  person upon receipt of the prior service credit purchase payment 
  2.13  amount. 
  2.14     (f) The prior service credit purchase authority expires on 
  2.15  July 1, 2002, or on the date of termination of active state 
  2.16  service by the eligible person, whichever occurs earlier. 
  2.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.18     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
