  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; establishing a defined 
  1.3             contribution plan for the Columbia Heights volunteer 
  1.4             fire department relief association.  
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [COLUMBIA HEIGHTS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT 
  1.7   RELIEF ASSOCIATION; INCORPORATION.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding the provisions of Laws 1977, chapter 374, 
  1.9   sections 38 to 60, the entity currently known as the "Columbia 
  1.10  Heights fire department relief association, volunteer division" 
  1.11  shall become incorporated under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 
  1.12  317A, and be known as the "Columbia Heights volunteer fire 
  1.13  department relief association."  The new entity will be governed 
  1.14  by Minnesota Statutes, chapters 317A and 424A, as well as other 
  1.15  laws applicable to volunteer fire department relief 
  1.16  associations.  The Columbia Heights volunteer fire department 
  1.17  relief association may adopt the existing bylaws of the 
  1.18  "Columbia Heights fire department relief association, volunteer 
  1.19  division"; provided, however, that the bylaws must provide that 
  1.20  future benefits payable to any member of the association are 
  1.21  defined contribution lump sum service pensions under Minnesota 
  1.22  Statutes, section 424A.02, subdivision 4.  
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective the day after compliance with 
  1.25  Minnesota Statutes, section 645.021, by the Columbia Heights 
  2.1   city council.
