  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to public safety; modifying certain 
  1.3             requirement for operating emergency vehicle; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 169.17. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 169.17, is 
  1.7   amended to read: 
  1.8      169.17 [EMERGENCY VEHICLES.] 
  1.9      The speed limitations set forth in sections 169.14 to 
  1.10  169.17 do not apply to an authorized emergency vehicles when 
  1.11  vehicle responding to an emergency calls call, but the drivers 
  1.12  thereof its driver shall sound an audible signal by siren and 
  1.13  or display at least one lighted red light to the front.  This 
  1.14  provision does not relieve the driver of an authorized emergency 
  1.15  vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of 
  1.16  persons using the street, nor does it protect the driver of an 
  1.17  authorized emergency vehicle from the consequence of a reckless 
  1.18  disregard of the safety of others.
