  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; general state employees 
  1.3             retirement plan of the Minnesota state retirement 
  1.4             system; authorizing the purchase of certain temporary 
  1.5             employment service; resetting plan membership entrance 
  1.6             date to June 30, 1989. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [GENERAL STATE EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT PLAN; 
  1.9   AUTHORIZATION OF SERVICE CREDIT PURCHASE FOR PRIOR TEMPORARY 
  1.10  EMPLOYMENT PERIOD.] 
  1.11     (a) An eligible person described in paragraph (b) is 
  1.12  entitled to purchase four months of service credit, June 10, 
  1.13  1989, through October 10, 1989, that was rendered as a temporary 
  1.14  state employee and to be considered to have become a covered 
  1.15  employee as of June 10, 1989, for purposes of Minnesota 
  1.16  Statutes, sections 352.115, subdivision 3, and 352.116, 
  1.17  subdivisions 1 and 2. 
  1.18     (b) An eligible person under paragraph (a) is a person who: 
  1.19     (1) is currently a state employee covered by the general 
  1.20  state employees retirement plan of the Minnesota state 
  1.21  retirement system; 
  1.22     (2) was born on December 9, 1963; 
  1.23     (3) was employed as a temporary state employee as an 
  1.24  accounting technician at the Minnesota Veterans Home, 
  1.25  Minneapolis, on October 10, 1988; and 
  1.26     (4) became employed as a regular state employee by the 
  2.1   department of corrections, Stillwater, on October 10, 1989. 
  2.2      (c) The prior service credit purchase payment determination 
  2.3   is governed by Minnesota Statutes, section 356.55.  Payment must 
  2.4   be made by July 1, 2000. 
  2.5      (d) The person purchasing service credit under this section 
  2.6   must provide the executive director of the Minnesota state 
  2.7   retirement system with adequate documentation of meeting the 
  2.8   eligibility requirements of paragraph (b). 
  2.9      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.10     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
