A bill for an act
relating to corrections; requiring commissioner to fund certain county sentence
to service programs.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin (a) The commissioner of corrections must allow a county that operated a sentence
to service crew under a contract with the Department of Corrections in the 12 months
prior to July 1, 2010, to convert the county's state-operated sentence to service crews to
county-operated crews funded by pass-through grants from the department.

new text begin (b) A county eligible to convert the county's sentence to service crews under
paragraph (a) that canceled the county's contract with the state after July 1, 2010, is
eligible to receive grant funding from the department for the number of state-operated
crews that the county funded in the month prior to canceling the contract with the state.
