1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to crimes; prohibiting interfering with 1.3 emergency communications; prescribing penalties; 1.4 proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 1.5 chapter 609. 1.6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.7 Section 1. [609.776] [INTERFERENCE WITH EMERGENCY 1.8 COMMUNICATIONS.] 1.9 Whoever, without prior authorization, broadcasts or 1.10 transmits on, interferes with, blocks, or cross-patches another 1.11 frequency onto a law enforcement, firefighting, emergency 1.12 medical services, emergency radio frequency or channel, any 1.13 assigned or alternate emergency frequency or channel, or an 1.14 official cellular telephone communication of a law enforcement 1.15 agency, a fire department, or emergency medical services 1.16 provider, knowing, or having reason to know that the act creates 1.17 a risk of obstructing, preventing, or misdirecting official law 1.18 enforcement, firefighting, or emergency medical services 1.19 communications, is guilty of a felony and may be sentenced to 1.20 imprisonment for not more than five years or to payment of a 1.21 fine of not more than $10,000, or both. 1.22 Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 1.23 Section 1 is effective August 1, 2003, and applies to 1.24 crimes committed on or after that date.
