  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; requiring public post-secondary 
  1.3             institutions to adopt the semester system; proposing 
  1.4             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 135A.
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [135A.181] [TRANSITION TO SEMESTER SYSTEM.] 
  1.7      Minnesota public post-secondary institutions shall convert 
  1.8   to the semester system by January 1, 1999.  Students attending 
  1.9   institutions that have not converted to the semester system by 
  1.10  January 1, 1999, shall not be eligible for the state grant 
  1.11  program or any other form of student financial aid provided by 
  1.12  the state.
