  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; requiring notice to 
  1.3             tenants of compliance with the criminal background 
  1.4             check requirements for apartment managers; amending 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 299C.68, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 299C.68, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 7.  [NOTICE TO TENANTS.] An owner shall display 
  1.11  prominently in an area accessible to all tenants notice of the 
  1.12  owner's compliance with the background check requirements of 
  1.13  sections 299C.68 and 299C.69.  The notice shall include: 
  1.14     (1) the name of any individual for whom the owner is 
  1.15  required to request a background check; 
  1.16     (2) a current photograph of any individual for whom the 
  1.17  owner is required to request a background check; 
  1.18     (3) a statement that any displayed individual has the 
  1.19  means, within the scope of the individual's duties, to enter a 
  1.20  tenant's dwelling unit; and 
  1.21     (4) a statement that the owner has complied with all local, 
  1.22  state, and federal requirements concerning background checks for 
  1.23  managers.
