  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to statutes; expanding the definition of 
  1.3             family; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.4             645.44, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 645.44, is 
  1.7   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 3b.  [FAMILY.] Unless federal law prohibits, the 
  1.9   definition of family as used in programs administered by the 
  1.10  state shall include grandparents, grandchildren, all 
  1.11  blood-related individuals, stepchildren, stepparents, and life 
  1.12  partners.
