A bill for an act
relating to motor carriers; providing for certain
exemption from rate filings by household goods
carriers; amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, section
221.171, subdivision 2.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 221.171,
subdivision 2, is amended to read:

person engaged in the transportation of household goods for the
federal government or an agency of the federal government or the
transportation of household goods for the state government or an
agency of the state government where competitive bids are
required by law is exempt from subdivision 1.

new text begin (b) A person engaged in the transportation of household
goods for a charitable organization is exempt from subdivision
1. A person engaged in the transportation of household goods
for a charitable organization may conduct the transportation
without restriction to the geographic area the carrier is
authorized to serve under section 221.121. For purposes of this
section, a charitable organization must be registered with the
Attorney General's Office under chapter 309.
