  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to employment; modifying procedures for the 
  1.3             extended employment program in the department of 
  1.4             economic security; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.5             section 268A.15, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 268A.15, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 8.  [FUNDING LIMITATION.] The commissioner shall set 
  1.10  aside a minimum of five percent of the extended employment 
  1.11  program appropriation each year designated as grant funds.  This 
  1.12  amount is to be transferred to a separate account in the 
  1.13  accounting system and shall be available for 18 months following 
  1.14  the end of a fiscal year to allow for the completion of audits 
  1.15  and distribution of remaining balances in the account following 
  1.16  reconciliation.  In addition, the commissioner may receive 
  1.17  refunds from grantees and disburse those funds in any subsequent 
  1.18  year for the purpose of the extended employment program.
