  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; authorizing projects to 
  1.3             demonstrate the effectiveness of case management 
  1.4             alternatives for persons with developmental 
  1.5             disabilities; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 252.  
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [252.286] [CASE MANAGEMENT DEMONSTRATION 
  1.9   PROJECTS.] 
  1.10     The commissioner of human services may develop projects to 
  1.11  demonstrate the effectiveness of alternate forms of case 
  1.12  management for persons with developmental disabilities.  In 
  1.13  developing the projects, the commissioner shall give 
  1.14  consideration to projects that: 
  1.15     (1) provide freedom of choice of residential service vendor 
  1.16  for the person being served; 
  1.17     (2) provide opportunities for case management services to 
  1.18  be provided by friends or family members; and 
  1.19     (3) demonstrate ways to more effectively use available case 
  1.20  management funds. 
  1.21     The commissioner must report to the legislature on the 
  1.22  outcomes of these demonstration projects by January 15, 1997. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1995.
