  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; clarifying rulemaking authority 
  1.3             regarding petitions; amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, 
  1.4             section 204B.071. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 204B.071, is 
  1.7   amended to read: 
  1.8      204B.071 [PETITIONS; RULES OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE.] 
  1.9      The secretary of state shall adopt rules governing the 
  1.10  manner in which nominating petitions, recall petitions, and 
  1.11  proposed recall petitions required for any election in this 
  1.12  state are circulated, signed, filed, and inspected.  The 
  1.13  secretary of state shall provide samples of petition forms for 
  1.14  those petitions for use by election officials.
