A bill for an act
relating to public safety; providing for special "MN supports family farmers"
license plates; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 168.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Notwithstanding section 168.1293, the
commissioner shall issue special plates showing support for family farmers to an applicant
who:

(1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, one-ton pickup truck,
motorcycle, or recreational motor vehicle;

(2) pays a fee of $10 for each set of license plates applied for;
new text end
new text begin
(3) pays the registration tax as required under section 168.013; and

new text begin
(4) complies with this chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles
and licensing of drivers.

The commissioner, in consultation with organizations that
represent Minnesota farmers, shall design the special plate emblem. The final design of
the special plate is subject to the approval of the commissioner.

On payment of a transfer fee of $5, plates issued under
this section may be transferred to another passenger automobile, one-ton pickup truck,
motorcycle, or recreational motor vehicle registered to the individual to whom the special
plates were issued.

The commissioner shall maintain a record of the number of
special plates issued under this section.

Fees collected under subdivision 1, clause (2), must be
credited to the vehicle services operating account in the special revenue fund.

This section is effective January 1, 2012.
