  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; eliminating the presidential 
  1.3             primary election; amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, 
  1.4             sections 204C.04, subdivision 2; and 204D.24, 
  1.5             subdivision 2; repealing Minnesota Statutes 1994, 
  1.6             sections 204B.06, subdivision 1a; 207A.01; 207A.02; 
  1.7             207A.03; 207A.04; 207A.06; 207A.07; 207A.08; 207A.09; 
  1.8             and 207A.10. 
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 204C.04, 
  1.11  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [ELECTIONS COVERED.] For purposes of this 
  1.13  section, "election" means a regularly scheduled state primary or 
  1.14  general election, or an election to fill a vacancy in the office 
  1.15  of United States senator or United States representative, or a 
  1.16  presidential primary as described in section 207A.01 unless it 
  1.17  is conducted by mail.  
  1.18     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 204D.24, 
  1.19  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.20     Subd. 2.  [VOTER REGISTRATION.] An individual may register 
  1.21  to vote at a special primary or special election at any time 
  1.22  before the day that the polling place rosters for the special 
  1.23  primary or special election are prepared by the secretary of 
  1.24  state.  The secretary of state shall provide the county auditors 
  1.25  with notice of this date at least seven days before the printing 
  1.26  of the rosters.  This subdivision does not apply to a special 
  1.27  election held on the same day as the presidential primary, state 
  2.1   primary, state general election, or the regularly scheduled 
  2.2   primary or general election of a municipality, school district, 
  2.3   or special district.  
  2.4      Sec. 3.  [REPEALER.] 
  2.5      Minnesota Statutes 1994, sections 204B.06, subdivision 1a; 
  2.6   207A.01; 207A.02; 207A.03; 207A.04; 207A.06; 207A.07; 207A.08; 
  2.7   207A.09; and 207A.10, are repealed.
