  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; allowing time off to vote in 
  1.3             elections to fill a vacancy in the legislature; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 204C.04, 
  1.5             subdivision 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 204C.04, 
  1.8   subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [ELECTIONS COVERED.] For purposes of this 
  1.10  section, "election" means a regularly scheduled state primary or 
  1.11  general election, an election to fill a vacancy in the office of 
  1.12  United States senator or United States representative, an 
  1.13  election to fill a vacancy in the office of state senator or 
  1.14  state representative, or a presidential primary as described in 
  1.15  section 207A.01 unless it is conducted by mail. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     This act is effective the day following final enactment.
