  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to taxation; authorizing the city of Kenyon 
  1.3             to recertify its final levy for taxes levied in 1996. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [CITY OF KENYON; REVISED FINAL LEVY.] 
  1.6      Subdivision 1.  [REVISED FINAL LEVY.] Notwithstanding the 
  1.7   date in Minnesota Statutes, section 275.07, subdivision 1, for 
  1.8   taxes levied in 1996, payable in 1997 only, the city of Kenyon 
  1.9   may increase its final levy certified under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.10  section 275.07, subdivision 1, by $68,720.  By February 20, 
  1.11  1997, the city of Kenyon shall recertify to the Goodhue county 
  1.12  auditor a revised final levy of $407,282.  The revised final 
  1.13  levy shall be used by the county auditor to compute the tax 
  1.14  rates for the city of Kenyon for taxes payable in 1997.  
  1.15     The Goodhue county auditor shall report to the commissioner 
  1.16  of revenue the revised final levy for the city of Kenyon.  The 
  1.17  provisions of Minnesota Statutes, section 275.065, subdivisions 
  1.18  6, 6a, and 7 do not apply to the revised final levy for the city 
  1.19  certified under this section. 
  1.20     Subd. 2.  [PUBLICATION.] The city of Kenyon must publish in 
  1.21  an official newspaper of general circulation in the city a 
  1.22  notice of its revised final levy.  The notice shall contain 
  1.23  examples of the tax impact of the revised final levy on 
  1.24  homestead, apartment, and commercial classes of property in the 
  2.1   city.  The Goodhue county auditor shall assist the city in 
  2.2   preparing the examples for the publication. 
  2.3      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.4      Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 645.023, 
  2.5   subdivision 1, paragraph (a), section 1 is effective without 
  2.6   local approval the day following final enactment.
