  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing funding for volunteer 
  1.3             firefighter training; appropriating money. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.6      $....... is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal 
  1.7   year 1996 to the board of trustees of the Minnesota state 
  1.8   colleges and universities for volunteer firefighter training.  
  1.9   The money shall be distributed to cover a higher percentage of 
  1.10  training costs for smaller cities.  A city shall not supplant 
  1.11  the budget of its volunteer fire department as a result of 
  1.12  receiving dedicated money for training.  Wherever possible, 
  1.13  volunteer fire departments in various cities shall cooperate in 
  1.14  training programs.  The training must be provided by persons 
  1.15  licensed or approved by the board of trustees of the Minnesota 
  1.16  state colleges and universities.
