  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the building code; bleacher safety; 
  1.3             providing grant money to assist organizations to bring 
  1.4             bleachers into compliance; appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [BLEACHER SAFETY GRANTS.] 
  1.7      The commissioner of administration shall make grants to 
  1.8   persons to assist them in achieving compliance with the bleacher 
  1.9   safety requirements of Minnesota Statutes, section 16B.616. The 
  1.10  commissioner shall give the highest priority to grant requests 
  1.11  from persons for whom the cost of achieving compliance is the 
  1.12  greatest financial hardship.  For purposes of this section, a 
  1.13  "person" is any municipality, school district, county 
  1.14  agricultural society, individual, or other person or 
  1.15  organization subject to the safety requirements of Minnesota 
  1.16  Statutes, section 16B.616. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.18     $....... in fiscal year 2002 is appropriated from the 
  1.19  general fund to the commissioner of administration to administer 
  1.20  section 1.  Any unencumbered balance remaining in the first year 
  1.21  does not cancel but is available for the second year of the 
  1.22  biennium.
