A bill for an act
relating to crime prevention and public safety;
appropriating money for certain deficiencies within
the criminal justice system.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATIONS.

The sums indicated in this section are appropriated from
the general fund to the agencies and for the purposes indicated,
to be available for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005.

Sec. 2. new text begin CRIMINAL JUSTICE DEFICIENCY APPROPRIATIONS.

Subdivision 1.

Public Safety $ 750,000

This appropriation is for gang strike
force grants under Minnesota Statutes,
section 299A.66.

Subd. 2.

Public Defense 7,681,000

This appropriation is in addition
to any appropriation provided by Laws 2003,
First Special Session chapter 2, article 1,
section 8, and is added to the board's
base level funding.

Subd. 3.

Corrections .,...,...

Of this appropriation, $2,850,000 is to
house the prison population over forecast.

Of this appropriation, $....... is for
increased health care expenditures.

Of this appropriation, $....... is for
increased costs relating to supervision and
management of sex offenders.

Subd. 4.

Judicial Standards .,...,...

This appropriation is for deficiency
costs related to proceedings against a
judge that occurred during the fiscal
biennium ending June 30, 2005.
