  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to governmental operations; decentralizing 
  1.3             the consumer protection office and the human rights 
  1.4             department; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             8.32, by adding a subdivision; and 363.05, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 8.32, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 3.  [GREATER MINNESOTA.] The attorney general, in 
  1.11  cooperation with local units of government, shall ensure that at 
  1.12  least one employee of the consumer protection office is located 
  1.13  in each of the northeastern, northwestern, southeastern, 
  1.14  southwestern, and central areas of the state. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 363.05, is 
  1.16  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.17     Subd. 4.  [GREATER MINNESOTA.] The commissioner, in 
  1.18  cooperation with local units of government, shall ensure that at 
  1.19  least one employee is located in each of the northeastern, 
  1.20  northwestern, southeastern, southwestern, and central areas of 
  1.21  the state.
