  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to animals; prohibiting manufactured home 
  1.3             parks from prohibiting senior citizens from keeping 
  1.4             pet dogs, cats, and birds on the park premises; 
  1.5             amending Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 327.27, by 
  1.6             adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 327.27, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 5.  [CERTAIN PETS.] A manufactured home park may not 
  1.11  prohibit a resident senior citizen from keeping a house pet dog, 
  1.12  cat, or bird under the care and control of the senior citizen on 
  1.13  the premises of the manufactured home park but may enforce 
  1.14  reasonable rules as to the care and maintenance of the pet.  For 
  1.15  the purposes of this subdivision, "senior citizen" has the 
  1.16  meaning provided by section 325F.71, subdivision 1.  The senior 
  1.17  citizen or owner of the dog, cat, or bird is liable for damages 
  1.18  caused by the dog, cat, or bird as provided in chapter 346 or 
  1.19  347 and other applicable law. 
  1.20     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.21     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
