  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the city of Fergus Falls; authorizing the 
  1.3             city to impose a lodging tax. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [CITY OF FERGUS FALLS; LODGING TAX.] 
  1.6      Notwithstanding the limitation on tax rate and use of the 
  1.7   proceeds of the tax in Minnesota Statutes, section 469.190, the 
  1.8   city of Fergus Falls may impose a tax on transient lodging under 
  1.9   Minnesota Statutes, section 469.190, at a rate not to exceed 
  1.10  five percent, and up to $50,000 of the proceeds of the tax may 
  1.11  be used annually for the cost of acquisition and construction of 
  1.12  a tourism center.  The tax shall remain in effect for not more 
  1.13  than ten years unless terminated earlier by action of the Fergus 
  1.14  Falls city council. 
  1.15     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective upon approval 
  1.16  by the Fergus Falls city council and compliance with Minnesota 
  1.17  Statutes, section 645.021, subdivision 3.
